A MEMS three-axis accelerometer and a temperature sensor are combined in the LIS2DTW12. Available from STMicroelectronics, the single die is designed for use in space-constrained and battery-sensitive detectors such as shipping trackers, wearables, and IoT endpoints. The sensing accuracy of 0.8 degrees C offers precision comparable with standalone standard temperature sensors, according to ST Microelectronics.

STMicroelectronics improves GUI for custom motion-sensing design
To simplify the configuration of the finite state machine and machine learning core (FSM and MLC) logic of STMicroelectronics’ inertial measurement units (IMU), including the recently announced LSM6DSO and LSM6DSOX six-axis modules, STMicroelectronics has introduced the Unico GUI (STSW-MKI109L for Linux, STSW-MKI109M for Mac OSX, and STSW-MKI109W for Windows machines.
LED driver sheds light on animation effects
Smooth animation effects in wearable electronics and appliances – where the light fades in and fades or dims in increments (known as colour chasing or deep breathing) – can be achieved using STMicroelectronics LED1202 12-channel LED driver. The programmable 12-channel RGB-LED driver is designed to enhance lighting effects and animation for smart devices around the home and wearable electronics.
Electronics turns its hand to the textile industry
There is a lot of attention paid to ‘smart’ sportswear using wearable technology, but one company is using textile technology to develop fabrics for industrial uses, says Caroline Hayes
