Samsung announces the 32-Gbyte DDR4 SoDIMM for gaming laptops. Claimed to be the industry’s first in the SoDIMM format, it is based on 10nm class process technology and will enrich mobile PC-grade computer games, boosting capacity, speed to 2,666Mbit per second, while lowering energy consumption.

Using the memory, PC manufacturers can build faster gaming-oriented laptops with longer battery life at capacities exceeding conventional mobile workstations, while

Compared to Samsung’s 16GB SoDIMM based on 20nm-class eight-Gbit DDR4, which was introduced in 2014, the 32Gbyte module doubles the capacity while being 11 per cent faster and approximately 39 per cent more energy efficient.

There is a total of 16 of Samsung’s 16-Gbit DDR4 DRAM chips (eight chips each mounted on the front and back), the 32-Gbyte SoDIMM allows gaming laptops to reach speeds up to 2,666Mbits per second.

A 64-Gbyte laptop configured with two 32-Gbyte DDR4 modules consumes less than 4.6W in active mode and less than 1.4W when idle. This reduces power usage by approximately 39 per cent and over 25 per cent, respectively, compared to today’s leading gaming-oriented laptops, which are equipped with 16-Gbyte modules, says Samsung.
