Satellite navigation module saves bill of materials

No external components, except an antenna, are required with the MSB1054 multi-receiver global navigation satellite system (GNSS) module from Fujitsu Electronics Europe.

GNSS encompasses a variety of systems: GPS, GLONASS, QZSS, SBAS, Galileo and BeiDou. The ability to receive signals from several satellite systems significantly reduces the time to first fix (TTFF), meaning a faster and more accurate positioning.

The MSB1054 also provides a built-in RF-front end (SAW filter, LNA) as well as a TCXO, so that, apart from an antenna, no external component is required. Fujitsu’s GNSS module is equipped with a built-in flash memory for quick start, to save the navigation data.

Small dimensions of 5.8 x 6.2 x 1.0mm, and consuming only 3.4mA current in low-power mode, the MSB1054 is suitable for a variety of applications such as smart watches, fitness trackers, logistics (asset tracking and monitoring), indoor or outdoor navigation.

The multi-receiver module joins the company’s range of components and services that support the development of low-power and IoT solutions. Its portfolio incudes FRAM as well as Ambiq Micro’s MCUs, RTCs, BLE and energy harvesting solutions. Fujitsu Electronics Europe’s key markets are automotive, industrial, medical and fitness and communications. It has offices in Langen (near Frankfurt) and Munich, Germany,  Milan and Budapest.
