Samsung updates timeless Galaxy Watch4 Classic

Health monitoring in a classic watch design is the design goal for the Galaxy Watch4 Classic unveiled by Samsung.

The Galaxy Watch4 Classic has a rotating bezel and combines stainless steel with the Ridge Sports Band, made of fluoroelastomer material which is durable, sweat-resistant and maintains a firm fit. Other design options are an analogue or digital watch face with a variety of backgrounds, fonts and colours. The watch face can be display augmented reality (AR) emojis and animated graphics can be synched to display the wearer’s activity, whether running or listening to music.

The smartwatch can track fitness with body measurement to track body fat percentage, skeletal muscle, body water, for example. The Samsung BioActive sensor captures body composition in real time for a bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) in 15 seconds. An electrical heart sensor measures ECG and the PPG sensor, an optical heart rate sensor  blood pressure in real time with data sent to the wearer’s phone. An optical heart rate sensor, the PPG sensor, checks blood pressure. ECG can check abnormal heart rate and rhythm, with data sent straight to a linked smartphone.

The Galaxy Watch4 Classic can track activity, detecting physical activity and supporting over 90 exercises to record workouts for a more accurate report of workouts, says Samsung. It also counts steps and calories and there is GPS for navigation.

There is also a live message board to track steps and compete with others in your workout group, with a system of badges and points.

When the wearer is at rest, the watch continues to work. A sleep tracker detects and holistically analyses sleep stages. Samsung has improved measuring options to check blood oxygen levels and snoring patterns. The Galaxy Watch4 Classic also provides insights from the National Sleep Foundation for better sleep quality and duration.

The watch is the first to be loaded with Wear OS Powered by Samsung to provide seamless access to apps, from music streaming apps to a library of health and fitness apps. It also enables Control ANC on Galaxy Buds2 or apps on your phone straight from your watch. There is also a compass.
