Real time face authentication is invisible behind OLED

At MWC 2023 Barecelona later this month, trinamiX will demonstrate its face authentication smartphone reference design. The biometric provider’s high security level trinamiX face authentication will be invisibly integrated behind the smartphone’s OLED display, negating the need for the ‘notch’ in the phone display which accommodates the front facing camera.

trinamiX says that  its technology will mean smartphones will be able to combine the convenience of touchless, biometric user authentication with an unlimited, full screen viewing experience.

trinamiX will expose the reference design demo to live bogus attempts with realistic, three dimensional masks, to demonstrate the protection afforded against unauthorised access and fraud by detecting and authentication skin.

A sensor for seamless integration into commercially available smartphones and smartwatches performs individual measurements on skin, e.g., related to the personal health and fitness condition. Using a near-infrared spectroscopy and a smartphone app, smartphone users will receive tailor-made recommendations in real time. At MWC 2023, trinamiX has mounted their functional prototype of this miniaturised spectrometer inside a demonstrator that operates on a smartphone-like system environment.

The company will team with STMicroelectronics to show the reference design in consumer electronics and with Continental to apply the face authentication in the automotive industry for the jointly developed Driver Identification Display.

The invisible integration of trinamiX’s technomlogy into Continental’s in-cabin driver display allows for the touchless authentication of the driver to provide secure operation of integrated digital payment apps for example.
