Infineon provides EMV-payments to fashion accessories

Secured payment functionality can be integrated into fashion accessories using the Infineon Technologies’ EMV-based payment solutions for key chains, rings, wristbands or bracelets. The Secora Pay W for Smart Payment Accessories (SPA) combines an EMV chip with the card OS, payment applet as well as the antenna directly on tape. The turnkey solution allows card vendors, device manufacturers, financial institutions or event organisers to quickly and cost-efficiently introduce fashion accessories for payment and even access, says Infineon.

“We continuously make digital payments easier and safer,” said Bjoern Scharfen, head of Payment & Wearables at Infineon. “The trend is clearly towards contactless transactions, whether with a smart card, mobile phone or a fashion accessory. Infineon’s Secora Pay turnkey solutions . . . enable established as well as emerging ecosystem players to turn almost anything into a convenient and secured payment device that surpasses their customers’ expectations.”

Smart wearable technology is being used in a variety of applications from business computing to healthcare monitoring. ABI Research expects the global market for wearable device shipments to reach more than 500 million units by 2021; 20 per cent of these devices are expected to be connected with a payment, transport or access control application.

The Secora Pay W for Smart Payment Accessories (SPA) is optimised for card manufacturers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). It comes with antenna designs that are based on Infineon’s semiconductor and module expertise. Infineon claims to enable fast and secured contactless payment with transaction speeds of 300 milliseconds and below.

Infineon’s Secora Py solutions portfolio comprises the Secora Pay S for standard Visa and MasterCard payment cards, Secora Pay X for applications with extended features such as multi-application, national debit and white label schemes or access management, and Secora Pay W for payment accessories. All Secora turnkey solutions are pre-certified by Mastercard and Visa and are available now in volume quantities.
