East Coast Microwave adds wide axial mating blindmate RF contacts

East Coast Microwave, a subsidiary of Powell Electronics has added the PkZ series blindmate RF contacts from Phoenix Company of Chicago to its portfolio. According to East Coast Microwave, the contacts have the widest available axial mating tolerance currently available.

They have a constant impedance up to a .09 inch axial mating tolerance, which enables the contacts to accommodate large radial and axial misalignment tolerances found in modular applications, for example, in aerospace and vehicle communication systems, test systems, radar systems and UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) systems.

The design of the high performance and reliable PkZ series contacts is credited for the low mating forces and constant impedance even as differences in mating profiles or gaps are created in the mating interface. These characteristics eliminate conventional and elaborate methods to overcome mating gaps, such as an internal spring, explained East Coast Microwave.

The components are available as MIL-DTL-38999 size 12 RF contacts for a frequency range from DC up to 40GHz (178 series), MIL-DTL-38999 size eight RF contacts for low loss cable for a frequency range from DC up to 32GHz (78 series) and ARINC microwave size eight coax contacts for ARINC connectors (600 series) for a frequency range from DC up to 32GHz (68 series). They are suitable for use with a wide range of connector housings including D-subs, high density D-subs, DIN 41612, four-position inserts, ARINC, MIL-DTL-38999 as well as custom housings.

East Coast Microwave is a subsidiary of Powell Electronics, the supplier of connectors and more for high-rel applications including defence, aerospace and industrial.
