The smartphone market’s latest trend is foldable displays, currently made of plastic and prone to scratches, wrinkles and premature breakdown and malfunction. Conventional smartphone displays are made up of at least two layers of tempered glass and therefore cannot be folded easily. LPKF Laser & Electronics believes it has the solution which it will present at the SID Display Week conference in San Jose, California, USA (14 to 16 May).

Murata and Cypress develop battery saving Wi-Fi-Bluetooth module
A collaboration between Murata and Cypress Semiconductor has led to the development of small form factor Wi-Fi and Bluetooth module. The Type 1LV (CYW43012) module is claimed to be the lowest power, small form factor Wi-Fi and Bluetooth module and to improve battery life in wearables, smart home products, and portable audio applications.
ST combines accelerometer and temperature sensor for tight spaces
A MEMS three-axis accelerometer and a temperature sensor are combined in the LIS2DTW12. Available from STMicroelectronics, the single die is designed for use in space-constrained and battery-sensitive detectors such as shipping trackers, wearables, and IoT endpoints. The sensing accuracy of 0.8 degrees C offers precision comparable with standalone standard temperature sensors, according to ST Microelectronics.
STMicroelectronics improves GUI for custom motion-sensing design
To simplify the configuration of the finite state machine and machine learning core (FSM and MLC) logic of STMicroelectronics’ inertial measurement units (IMU), including the recently announced LSM6DSO and LSM6DSOX six-axis modules, STMicroelectronics has introduced the Unico GUI (STSW-MKI109L for Linux, STSW-MKI109M for Mac OSX, and STSW-MKI109W for Windows machines.
