AEL Crystals extends range with SiTime MEMS oscillators

MEMS oscillators from SiTime are now available from AEL Crystals as the distributor continues its support for manufacturers supplying frequency control products for the IoT market.

Frequency control product developers have to bear in mind that the IoT adds a new dimension, with its use of multiple protocols (Bluetooth, ZigBee, Z-Wave, 6LoWPAN, CSR Mesh / Bluetooth Low Energy (LE), Sigfox and Thread). Products have to meet the demand for reliable, wireless frequency generation and meet other design constraints such as the need to reduce form factor and power consumption as well as to ensure products provide consistent performance over a broad operating specification.

To meet these design requirements, AEL Crystals has added the SiT15xx 32.768 kHz MEMS timing solutions which are designed for space- and power-critical applications in mobile, IoT and wearable products.

SiTime MEMS oscillators offer high levels of integration, new packaging options and space savings, with surface mount and ultra-small chip-scale package (CSP) choices.

IoT applications will benefit from the clocking for monitoring circuitry, says AEL Crystals, which is based on a real-time clock (32.768 kHz) that is always-on, contributing to extending the life of the battery.

The MEMS oscillators are available in a 2.0 x 1.2 mm (2012) SMD package for designs that require crystal resonator compatibility. The CSP MEMS oscillator reduces footprint by up to 80 per cent, compared to existing 2012 SMD crystal packages and is 60 per cent smaller than the 1610 crystal package (1.6 x 1.0 mm).

In addition to real time clock (RTC) products, SiTime offers the SiT8021, the industry’s smallest and the lowest power MHz oscillator in a 1.5 x 0.8 mm CSP. This µPower oscillator is suitable for battery-operated applications, with low operating power of 270 microA (max) and up to 0.7microA in standby mode.

The programmable technology ensures that samples are availability from stock in all frequencies.

AEL Crystals adds the SiTime MEMS oscillators to its existing range which includes 1.6 x 1.6 mm watch crystals (with ESR as low as 60kOhm); 1.6 x 1.2 mm 32.768Hz oscillators; 1.6 x 1.0 mm AT-cut crystal resonators; 1.2 x 1.0 mm AT-cut crystal resonators and 1.6 x 1.2 mm clock oscillators, all designed to support development for IoT applications.

AEL Crystals also supports customers with ultra-miniature TCXO, antenna and filter devices.

AEL Crystals specialises in frequency control products. It has many wireless chipset product approvals.

AEL works closely with world-leading communication chipset vendors and has a global logistics presence to support established and emerging customers.
