Microcontrollers simplify wearable design and extend battery lif
Two microcontrollers from Maxim Integrated, the MAX32630 and MAX32631, increase processing speed, maintain small package sizes and extend battery life for wearable devices, claims the company.
The two ARM Cortex-M4F microcontrollers have power management to maximise run time and deliver what is claimed to be the lowest energy consumption in the industry of active (127microW/MHz), DMA (32microW/MHz), and retention sleep (3.5microW) modes. They offer 2Mbyte flash, 512kbyte SRAM and 8kbyte cache memory to run third-party applications and log sensor data.
Interfaces include SPI, SPI XIP, UART, I²C, 1-Wire®, and USB ports. Peripheral functions include six 32bit timers, clock, 66 GPIO pins, pulse train engine, and 10bit ADC operating at 7.8ksample/s. The MAX32631 adds a trust protection unit (TPU) that enables advanced hardware encryption and authentication features for a toolbox to protect IP, algorithms, and user data.
The MAX32630 and secure MAX32631 extend Maxim’s scalable memory architecture microcontroller portfolio. They are packaged in a 4.37 x 4.37mm 100-ball WLP, operating at -20 to +85 degree C.
