At the Imec Technology Forum in Antwerp (ITF Belgium 2018, 23 to 24 May), the research centre for nano-electronics has demonstrated a wireless eye-tracking technology based on electro-oculography (EOG). The ophthalmology technique is used to examine eyes and record eye movement and this technology has been integrated into a standard pair of eyeglasses, initially to improve augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) experiences, although it will also be used in clinical research on neurodegenerative diseases, advises Imec.

Rutronik UK offers first integrated MEMS gas sensor from Bosch Sensortec
Integrated environmental sensors from Bosch Sensortec, the BME680, for wearables and mobile use, is available from Rutronik UK.
Low power microcontroller duo extends battery-powered sensors and wearables
Two microcontrollers from Maxim Integrated, the MAX32660 and MAX32652 are based on the low-power Arm Cortex-M4F. They are suitable for wearable sensors and battery-powered applications such as IoT sensors, environmental sensors, smartwatches, medical/preventive health wearables, and other size-constrained devices.
Sensor IC measures high-speed heart rate for vital sign sensing
An optical heart rate sensor, the BH1792GLC from Rohm Semiconductor, is designed for smart bands and watches. It has high-speed 1024Hz sampling, which makes it possible to measure the heart rate up to 32 times faster than conventional solutions, claims Rohm. It can also be used for measuring blood pressure, stress and vascular age.
