TDK “redefines TWS” with hardware and software suite

The latest offering from TDK dedicated to the true wireless stereo (TWS) market is VibeSense360, comprised of hardware and software dedicated to the TWS market.

VibeSense360 has been introduced to address some of the most complicated problems TWS OEMs face, including offering competitive features to differentiate products, said TDK.

Features enabled by VibeSense360 include always on spatial audio. It combines what is claimed to be the world’s lowest power six-axis IMU (inertial measurement unit) at 280 microA, with TDK’s software suite. The result, said TDK is industry-leading head tracking accuracy which is essential for a truly immersive 360 degree spatial audio experience.

The suite also determines when the user is speaking via vocal vibration detection and can automatically shift from ANC (active noise cancelling) to transparency mode and pause any audio that may be playing.

The keyword assist feature enables VibeSense360 to differentiate between user audio and ambient noise. This assists the microphones in the TWS system by ignoring surrounding audio. This not only creates less false keyword triggers but provides secure keyword detection.

Using TDK’s machine learning algorithms built to run inside the IMU, VibeSense360 can train a device to recognise certain head gestures and assign commands or actions to allow the user’s head motion to control the TWS system.

Anson Yeganegi, director of System Solutions at InvenSense, a TDK Group company, commented that the TWS market is estimated to surpass the mobile market over the next few years, and that the company will be offering the TWS-M601 bundle (VibeSense360 for standard TWS devices and which requires a host microcontroller, in the first half of 2023. Invensense will also introduce the TWS-M602 bundle. Like the TWS-M601 this will enable always on spatial audio but additionally offer keyword assist, transparency for talk mode and machine learning.

TDK focuses on demanding markets in automotive, industrial and consumer electronics, and information and communication technology. Its brands, in addition to Invensense, include TDK, Epcos, Micronas, Tronics and TDK-Lambda.
