Sensor provides health check via wearables
Smartphones, wearables and mobile devices with V-Sensor are able to measure blood pressure, blood oxygen, pulse rate, respiration rate and temperature measurements to medical accuracy with no other devices required, says Leman Micro Devices.
The first LMD’s V-Sensor is believed to be the only health sensor that measures five vital signs – blood pressure, blood oxygen (Sp02), respiration rate, pulse rate, and body temperature – to medical accuracy, cuff-less and calibration-free, with no other devices needed. Results are delivered on-screen in less than one minute in LMD’s e-Checkup app.
Adopting the consumer confidence of using phones for many aspects of daily life, such as banking, messaging, taking photos, LMD brings the measurement of vital signs for personal health to the same devices. Bundled with a phone, V-Sensor and e-Checkup are effectively free to the consumer, in the same way as a phone camera is included.
The company showed a miniature standalone V-Sensor device at CES in Las Vegas. It delivers results to a smartphone via Bluetooth.
The V-Sensor module has a fingertip-shaped depression on its surface, containing a MEMs pressure sensor embedded in flexible resin. The V-Sensor also contains an optical sensor, a temperature sensor and LMD’s custom ASIC which conditions and digitises the signals from the sensors and drives the LEDs and communication functions.
Target applications are wearable and phone personal health monitors. It delivers vital signs results to clinical accuracy, including blood pressure. The V-Sensor needs no calibration, enabling users to check their own blood pressure regularly and easily.
V-Sensor wearables, smartphones and mobile devices with integrated clinically-accurate health vital signs will be launch in 2021.
Leman Micro Devices (LMD) is based in Lausanne, Switzerland, close to EPFL University and major sensor companies. Founded in 2010, LMD developed its e-Checkup system for integration into smartphones and other personal devices. A sensor combined with an easy-to-use app is claimed to be the world’s first integrated system to measure blood pressure and other vital signs to medical accuracy. The e-Checkup system is on track to obtain international regulatory approval, confirms LMD.
