LDO regulators deliver enhanced power rail stabilisation in tight spaces
Low noise, compact, low dropout (LDO) voltage regulators from Toshiba Electronics Europe are suitable for use in a variety of portable and wearable devices, such as sensors, RF devices and IoT applications or any applications where the available board space is at a premium and high-density mounting is required.
The TCR3RM LDO voltage regulators are constructed in a plastic DFN4C package measuring 1.0 x 1.0 x 0.38mm. There are 32 product variants in the series, with fixed single output voltages in the range 0.9 to 4.5V DC.
The TCR3RM series regulators have a high ripple rejection ratio characteristic of, typically, 100dB at 1.0kHz measured with a 2.8V output. In typical regulators, ripple rejection ratio drops 20dB every 10-fold increase in frequency, but in the TCR3RM this fall is significantly less, says Toshiba. The rejection ratio at 1.0MHz and a 2.8V output is 68dB. To address electrical noise, particularly in DC/DC converters where higher switching frequencies are used to improve conversion efficiency, the ripple rejection attributes of the TCR3RM series, coupled with its low noise credentials, typically 5 microV rms at 10Hz ≤ f ≤ 100kHz, contribute to power supply line stability and voltage accuracy, claims Toshiba.
Maximum output current is 300mA, and the TCR3RM’s bandgap circuit, low pass filter and low-noise, high speed operational amplifier contribute to ripple rejection and output noise specifications.
The dropout voltage is typically 130mV at 2.8V / 300mA output. Across the series, the input voltage ranges from 1.8 to 5.5V. The regulator includes over-current protection, auto-discharge, and thermal shutdown safety features.
