MLCC from Murata is “world’s smallest 100nF capacitor”
Mobile applications will benefit from the GRM011 multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) that Murata claims is the smallest currently available.
As portable devices such as smartphones, hearing aids, wearable technology and other modules become increasingly multi-functional and more compact, electronic engineers are demanding higher circuit densities and the GRM011, 100nF (0.1 microF) capacitors in Murata’s new GRM011 series meet this need, says Murata. They are housed in a 008004 (0201M) package measuring just 0.25 x 0.125 x 0.125mm, making them 80 per cent smaller than conventional 0402M devices and around 50 per cent smaller than currently available products.
The MLCCs are constructed with fine particle technology and high precision lamination, explains Murata. They are suitable for rugged applications as they are able to operate at temperatures ranging from -55 to +105 degrees C.
There are three devices which make up the series: the GRM011C80E104ME01, GRM011R60G104ME01 and GRM011R60J104ME01. They have rated voltages of 2.5V DC, 4.0V DC and 6.3V DC respectively. The GRM011C80E104ME01 has EIA X6S temperature characteristics while the other two MLCCs are X5R.
The MLCCs are suitable for reflow processing and are supplied in 180 mm reels of 50,000pcs. All three GRM device versions are now in full production.
