Low current LDO from Diodes occupies less space and offers one per cent accuracy

Low current LDO from Diodes occupies less space and offers one per cent accuracy: Available with output voltages from 1.2 to 3.3V, the AP7350 low dropout voltage regulator (LDO) supports load currents up to 150mA. Diodes has introduced the AP7350 which targets low-power handheld and wearable devices.

The low quiescent current of just 0.25microA and one per cent accuracy enables designs to achieve extended battery life, says Diodes, while a chip‑scale package (CSP) that measures just 0.64mm² reduces board space requirements.

The design of the AP7350 addresses key requirements for new sensing applications that are boosting the growth of the IoT, namely power consumption and size.

The AP7350 meets the need for low power consumption, as many IoT node devices will be battery-powered. It is also small enough to fit the constrained form factor designs typified by wearable devices. In addition to the low quiescent current, it has a typical standby current of 20nA. As a result, the enables low sampling rate system designs that can operate for years on a single coin cell battery. The miniature chip-scale package is between a quarter and half the size of competitive solutions, says Diodes, and has a low profile of just 0.34mm.

The AP7350 is offered with seven output voltages: 1.2, 1.5, 1.8 2.5, 2.8, 3.0, and 3.3V. This range of voltage options addresses the voltage rail requirements of microcontroller, FPGA, other digital and analogue ICs, and sensor circuits commonly found in low-power IoT applications, says Diodes. Output accuracy is one per cent at room temperature and 1.5 per cent over the operating temperature range of -40 to +85 degree C.

Diodes supplies application specific standard products within the broad discrete, logic, analogue and mixed-signal semiconductor markets and in the consumer electronics, computing, communications, industrial, and automotive sectors. Diodes’ portfolio includes diodes, rectifiers, transistors, MOSFETs, protection devices, function-specific arrays, single gate logic, amplifiers and comparators, Hall-effect and temperature sensors, power management devices, including LED drivers, AC-DC converters and controllers, DC/DC switching and linear voltage regulators, and voltage references along with special function devices, such as USB power switches, load switches, voltage supervisors, and motor controllers.
