NFC tags and transceivers combine for IoT applications
Using STMicroelectronics’ ST25 NFC tag IC for IoT data transmission application, Securitag Assembly Group (SAG) has announced the NFC Ferrite Tag. It is small, light, and thin, and can be surface-mounted during production through the metal pad that can be directly soldered to the PCB surface.
Its anti-metallic interference characteristics enable it to function when placed on metal products. The tag is suitable for IoT data transmission applications in consumer electronics, wearable devices, and smart healthcare products, where it is compact and lightweight for wearable products.
Dimensions are 4.9 x 3.0 x 2.5mm. The tag has an embedded antenna for RF performance. STMicroelectronics’ ST25TA02K NFC Forum Type 4 tag IC has built-in NDEF (NFC Data Exchange Format) message support. This allows the NDEF data to be directly executed through an Android NFC phone without any dedicated application software. In addition, the IC has a 20bit counter and 128bit password to protect read/write access to the 2kbit EEPROM.
NFC is expected to drive IoT and wireless applications in the smart home, smart healthcare and medical, smart city, and smart factory markets.
Samples of the tag and IC are available now.
