4K HDMI to MIPI dual-DSI converter chipset has view to future

Able to support high resolution, real-time monitor displays, including head-mounted ones, the TC358870XBG is the industry’s first 4K High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) to MIPI dual-DSI converter chipset with video format conversion, claims Toshiba Electronics Europe.

The IC drives up to 4K ultra HD (3840 x 2160 pixels) at a refresh rate of 30frame/s with a dual-DSI interface. It also supports WQXGA (2560 x 1600) at 60frame/s and full HD resolutions at 120frame/s. Its low latency is claimed to enhance real-time gaming applications and virtual reality products with high resolution LCDs.

The chipset also supports conversion of HDMI audio input stream to I2S, TDM, or SLIMbus (Serial Low-power Inter-chip Media Bus). It is supplied in an FBGA80 package (7 x 7mm with 0.65mm ball pitch). Samples are available now, with mass production scheduled to begin in September.
